The Department of Public Works, whose mission is to provide the community with quality services, maintain and improve our public infrastructures and facilities, and support the preservation of Marin's unsurpassed beauty, currently has the following openings in the Building Maintenance Division which is responsible for more than 50 County owned facilities, including libraries, fire stations, Sheriff stations, flood control pump stations, office buildings, and two lock-down facilities.



CUSTODIAN

$4,512.63 - $4,901.00 Monthly

You will be responsible for custodial and light maintenance work in one or more of the County's 16 facilities, including:

  • Removing trash from offices

  • Cleaning and disinfecting restrooms and replenishing paper products and soap

  • Cleaning partitions, walls, and trash containers

  • Sweeping and scrubbing floors, removing gum and graffiti, and dusting

  • Conducting set up of tables and chairs, conducting furniture moves and removing old fixtures and furniture

  • Conducting security checks of the buildings

  • Monitoring equipment such as floor buffers, vacuums and extractors, cleaning used equipment and performing light repairs to equipment




This position requires shift work, including working on nights and weekends, wearing a County issued uniform and working in a Locked/Secured Facility. Basic computer skills are required to complete County forms and utilize County systems. Typically, equivalent to one (1) year of recent full-time custodial experience in commercial buildings and/or facilities that demonstrates possession of the knowledge and ability requirements as listed in the class specification.



BUILDING MAINTENANCE WORKER II

$6,240.00 - $6,813.63 Monthly

You will be responsible for performing a variety of routine duties in the maintenance and repair of these buildings, equipment and utility systems and the duties assigned may include, but are not limited to, replacing fluorescent and incandescent lamps, cleaning lighting fixtures and reflectors, cleaning air diffusers, moving and relocating office furniture and equipment, performing minor tasks in carpentry, painting, electrical and plumbing work.



We recognize your time is valuable, so please do not apply if you do not have at least the following required Minimum Qualifications: Two years of recent full-time experience in building maintenance work or in appropriate trades or crafts, which demonstrates possession of the knowledge and ability requirements listed in the class specification. Possession of a Building Operators Certification Level I and a Universal Refrigerant Recovery License is highly desirable. Incumbents must have the ability to work night shifts, weekends, and holidays and may be required to work alone.



BOTH POSITIONS REQUIRE:

  • License: These jobs require travel between various County and business-related locations. Employees who drive on County business to carry out job-related duties must possess a valid California driver's license for the class of vehicle driven and meet automobile insurability requirements of the County. Possession of a valid Class C California driver's license and a satisfactory driving history record as obtained from the Department of Motor Vehicles is required at the time of the selection interview.




  • Physical Demands: Individuals selected must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.




SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Candidates selected are subject to fingerprinting by the Sheriff's Department and must pass a Department of Justice and FBI LiveScan background check prior to appointment.
