DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW

The Business Resource Center (BRC) aims to build a strong foundation for UCOP financial operations, allowing departments to focus on their core duties. Our goal is to standardize procedures and controls to ensure maximum service to departments, as well as efficient, controlled and compliant transaction processing for administrative functions. BRC staff strive to provide excellent service while demonstrating accountability to stakeholders, including the Regents and the public.

POSITION SUMMARY

Applies professional tax and compliance concepts to tax assignments where analysis of data requires a review of a variety of factors and from multiple sources. Has internal and external contact on a regular basis. Review and creation of supplier sites within Oracle to ensure proper tax withholding's are implemented. Update and maintain suppliers w-9 and tax reporting compliance for 1099 and 1042 issuing. Coordinate with UC System-wide Payroll to create/change suppliers to receive death benefits, ensuring that the correct tax reporting settings are used. Create guest traveler supplier profiles to be exported to Concur for non-employee travel reimbursements

Reviews and establishes suppliers. Maintains supplier sites and tax reporting. Review all supplier documentation to ensure we have all the required and necessary backup to establish a supplier profile. Create/change the supplier in Oracle, ensuring that the correct tax reporting settings are used. Regularly review supplier procedures for process improvements and policy/regulatory compliance

Assists with the preparation of 1099's and 1042's for suppliers and contractors.

Provides analytical support for the accounts payable team regarding tax compliance. Coordinate with system-wide tax services to review foreign suppliers, ensuring that the correct tax reporting settings are used.

Assists in the editing and publishing of updates to document internal procedures as related to supplier site requirements and 1099 reporting. Manage third party review process to ensure that suppliers are screened to identify restricted suppliers (Visual Compliance is used by University of California Office of the President)

Researches tax issues utilizing IRS.gov and other tax research materials.

Required Qualifications
  • Demonstrated ability to perform tax research.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills, with the ability to make well thought out decisions.
  • Proficiency in oral, interpersonal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and complete multiple projects concurrently.
  • Working knowledge of IRS and California State Tax reporting requirements applicable to the returns / filings required to be filed by the University.
  • Proficiency in skills in the use of common office software such as Microsoft Word and Excel to prepare correspondence and spreadsheets.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of non-resident alien tax compliance systems and procedures.
  • Preferred: Knowledge of UC payroll system.

Education
  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 2 years' experience OR the equivalent 6 years' related experience without a Bachelor's degree.

SALARY AND BENEFITS

Salary: The recommended hiring range is $72,000 - $85,000. Commensurate with experience.
