| Senior Database Administrator & Systems Programmer, Stanford Law School (4P3) 36920
The Senior DBA/Systems Programmer will provide the technical domain and leadership required to effectively deliver high-quality, timely solutions and services that meet Stanford Law School's teaching, research, business and Administrative needs. The Sr. DBA's primary focus is to research, evaluate, plan design, allocate, implement, Support and optimize all aspects of SLS's databases needs. S/he will be responsible for establishing and managing Stanford Law School IT databases administration to ensure the integrity and availability of databases and other accompanying software. The Sr. DBA & Systems Programmer will partner and work closely with key faculty, staff, business, vendor and IT stakeholders to ensure data availability meets business objectives. Responsibilities:
Demonstrates a sound understanding of SLS functional business objectives that drive and shape technology requirements and design deliverables Possesses, develops, and applies knowledge of trends, relevant system development technologies and methodologies In-depth experience in building/configuring/maintaining MySQL/Postgres databases in a complex environment Ensures quality and consistency of design, development, testing, and integration testing cycles and deliverables, adhering to Architecture and compliance guidelines Mine large databases and logs to discover meaningful information and trends Collaborates with other engineers and architects to drive guidelines, methodologies, and documentation Drives continuous improvement; may include design, definition of roadmaps, standardization of processes and methodologies Collaborates and maintains working relationships with faculty; staff; and appropriate technology vendor, supplier and peer company contacts Participates in design / development estimating and scheduling Prepares technical quality enter/exit gates for design, integration testing, and deployment Designs frameworks for effectively solving complex business problems Provides database and information technology recommendations to Senior IT Management Works with internal and external organizations solving complex problems and handling large scale projects Provides detailed, day-to-day direction to development teams to design and build quality applications using standard patterns, architectures, and best practices. Provides Level 3 (advanced) technical expertise; Oversight and accountability for resolution of outages, service level issues, and user/customer Support needs in coordination with other Support groups and teams Ensures technical documentation is kept up to date (run books, process diagrams, system information, technical documents) Oversees future implementations and/or upgrades and ensure that Support standards are in place Defines proactive activities and tasks required for optimization of stability, performance and architecture Perform special projects and departmental initiatives as needed
Qualifications: BS or MS in Computer Management Information Systems with 8-12 years of related experience Strong background in PERL, PYTHON, PHP5, MySQL, Postgres, JavaScript, Apache, Linux Must be able to conduct systems analysis and translate user requirements into business solutions Exhibit strong problem-solving skills Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, conflict resolution, and Customer Service skills Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high volume, deadline-driven environment Proven project leadership skills with the ability to multi-task, delegate and prioritize tasks Professionalism in dealing with all levels of management and staff Ability to plan and deliver cost effective results 5-10 years experience designing, developing, tuning, optimizing, deploying and updating MySQL/Postgres environment with critical uptime requirements In-depth database knowledge with significant expertise in database administration and MySQL/Postgres application system administration Must have configured and managed replication/standby instances of MySQL/Postgres databases Must have configured and managed online backup technologies in MySQL/Postgres and ensure disaster recovery and data retention protocols (backup, monitoring, Security, installation) Must have expert knowledge of all MySQL/Postgres configuration parameters Excellent troubleshooting and performance tuning skills, ability to design scripts using shell and PERL programming Strong process and methodology to work through SDLC for database deployment Ability to perform analysis and ability to size various database technologies to business needs Expert knowledge of at least one database platform such as MySQL, Postgres, or Oracle is highly preferred Expert understanding of technology systems and infrastructure Expert knowledge of technology and software design and deployment principles Ability to articulate end-to-end technical requirements
