Specific ResponsibilitiesJob Description:
Manager to lead internal communications reporting to Senior Manager of Internal Communications for Engineering.
-Responsible for designing, developing and executing the
Engineering organization’s internal communications plan and strategy for
Engineering Operations and Business Transformation (ACT) initiatives for use with internal audiences within Cisco Engineering.
-Partner with communications and other functional colleagues to drive operational and company-wide transformational & change initiatives and programs down and across
Engineering Business Groups and Strategic Technology Groups, and extend cross-engineering content in a uniform, consistent manner (through presentations, scripts, articles, reports, messaging, podcasts, etc.).
-Manage consistent and frequent organizational communications using Web 2.0 tools and methods (ex: Create and maintain surveys, etc. with Services team, Integrated cross-organizational reports, debriefings, presentations, etc.)
Detailed Roles and Responsibilities
Develop, manage, and implement integrated communications strategies for organizations, programs or initiatives.
•Develops, implements and evaluates communications strategy
•Manages large-scale projects and resolves complex issues in creative and effective ways
•Works on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors
•Networks with key contacts outside own area of expertise
•Takes global needs and issues into consideration in the design and implementation of communication strategy
•Is a primary interface to SVPs, VPs, etc. on key communication activities
•Determines project scope and communications
Support needed for new assignments
Build strong relationships, teams, and collaboration for desired results
•Leads and participates participate in both functional and cross-functional communication activities.
•Owns relationships to enable collaboration within team and across organizations (primarily HR, LDSG, Ops, IT, Corp Comm, BG/STG Comms leads, Eng Comms Services, etc.)
Consult with clients on communication plans and strategies
•Influences clients and stakeholders on strategic messaging
•Makes recommendations on tactics and strategy
Develop and implement communication strategy in alignment with Cisco messaging and
Executive platform.
•Drives and integrates messaging from
Executive and corporate platforms into communications plans and strategies
•Plays partner role to
Executive communication manager to create one voice" across the organization
Create messaging that aligns to the organization, program or initiative and is targeted and relevant to the given audience.
•Demonstrates expert understanding of organization priorities, Cisco's priorities and role of organization, program or initiative to
Support the organization's value proposition
Coordinate communication strategy and delivery across multiple vehicles and organizations.
•Has expert knowledge of audience needs and impacts to drive timely, relevant messages for each audience
•Identifies and leverages most effective vehicles to communicate messaging to appropriate audience
Measure communication effectiveness and revise communication strategy appropriately.
Lead direct and virtual teams. (May perform some or all of these tasks)
•Creates and customizes messaging for segmented audiences
•Develops detailed plans for implementing communication strategy across various internal communication vehicles
•Proactively provides measurement and results to clients on communications programs and uses metrics to inform future communications projects/needs
-Must develop strong partnerships within the organization as well as cross-functionally in order to develop content and disseminate messaging for key communication deliverables.
-Ensures overall communications strategy is successfully executed across multiple channels (down/across/up).
-Additional responsibilities include customizing Engineering-wide briefing materials, presentations, special writing assignments and special project and event assignments.
Skills Required
Established track record and reputation for successfully aligning communications to the broader mission of a company, Group, and communications team.
-Strong interpersonal communications skills with maturity to interact comfortably to gain consensus among others, managing sensitive situations and sensitive materials
-Great team player and leader - has history of successful team management and collaboration with other communication departments to deliver high impact communications. Show strong culture of teamwork and collaboration across the group and with partners to execute with timeliness and quality
-Strong organizational skills with an ability to operationalize team processes and ensure alignment and consistency of communication best practices.
-Flexible and resilient problem solver, able to turn complex ideas into stories and visual concepts easily understood by a broad audience
-Good grasp of
Financial, economic and market issues, as well as business fundamentals
-Change Communications experience

Education
-BA/BS in Communications or related field plus 8+ years of relevant experience
-Knowledge of networking or Communications IT industry
-Understanding of Web 2.0 technologies
-Change Communications a plus
