The Department of Pediatrics is seeking a RESEARCH ASSISTANT/Lab manager to participate in a basic science research project in the Human Gene Therapy Program. The LSRA will be part of a team performing a variety of cellular and molecular biological experiments to investigate the functions of antigen presentation in autoimmunity. Will independently conduct experiments consulting with the PI as needed, and work closely to assist post-doctoral fellows on different projects. Additional responsibilities include ordering supplies, general lab organization, protocol preparation/renewal, some animal care, as well as enforcing health and safety regulations. Will also supervise student lab assistant in performance of duties such maintenance of common solutions and reagents, bookkeeping, and maintenance of equipment.
QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor’s degree in molecular biology or related field and at least two years of applicable experience required. Master’s degree preferred. Must be willing to work with animals, have experience working with mouse models, and follow animal care regulations and protocol. Must know how to perform procedures on mouse models such as IP/IV injections, tissue/organ removal (ie. bone-marrow, lymph nodes, spleen, thymus, pancreas, etc..), and be able to maintain breeding colonies. Must possess tissue culture techniques, knowledge of FACs sorting, be familiar with DIVA software, and be able to analyze 7-10 color FACs analysis. Knowledge of cell culture, nucleic acid isolation, plasmid preparation, vector Construction (cloning) and PCR is required. Candidate is expected to work with a high degree of autonomy; excellent organizational skills, and the ability to multi-task is required. Strong verbal and written communication skills and basic Computer knowledge.
Desired: Some familiarity with other current techniques in molecular and cellular biology, such as DNA sequencing and immunohistochemistry would be helpful.
