South San Francisco, CARESPONSIBILITIES: Director/Senior Director of Patent Litigation
Responsibilities: Reporting to the Vice President of Intellectual Property, the Director of Patent Litigation is responsible for overseeing management and/or directly managing all patent litigations, including discovery, trials, appeals before the Federal Circuit, patent interferences, patent re-examinations and coordinating with patent litigation and disputes in foreign jurisdictions. Qualified candidate will be a highly experienced patent litigator. Excellent writing and communication skills are required. Superb negotiation skills are a must. Must be able to manage interdisciplinary teams of employees and outside counsel.
This position drives the development of the company's IP litigation strategy and advises Legal and business senior management on major pre-litigation disputes and claims as well as the status, development and risk assessment of global litigation matters. The ideal candidate will have a track record of identifying opportunities throughout the litigation process where efficiencies can be achieved. The successful candidate will be a team player and will have broad technical knowledge in the Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical industry. Must also be able to work effectively with all levels of employees on litigation and potential litigation issues, manage effectively to budget, and oversee Legal opinions and certain diligence relating to third party patents. Some travel will be required.
Requirements: Minimum of fifteen years of significant patent analysis and litigation experience in a major law firm and/or in-house. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Position requires at least eight years of experience with litigation-team management, excellent oral and written communications skills, and human relations skills. A technical background and registration in the US Patent and Trademark office are required. State Bar membership and excellent academic credentials also required, including J.D. from a top national law school. Must be admitted to a State bar or the District of Columbia and must be admitted to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Must have an advanced degree in life sciences or equivalent technological background.
