Job Description
JAG - Judge Advocate General (Air Force Attorney) Position Summary Join an elite group of law professionals that provides a full range of Legal services to the U.S. Air-Force and its people. As a JAG in the Air-Force, you will receive specialized Training and immediately engage in an exciting, diversified practice of law where you will be able to focus on your clients and professional development without the distraction of billable hours. Responsibility The experience of practicing law in a military environment is markedly different than in the private sector. An Air-Force JAG handles a wide variety of Legal issues, including criminal, international, operational, environmental, medical, labor, space and civil law. Initially litigating courts-martial as a prosecutor, you have the potential to become defense counsel, offer counsel on multimillion-dollar contracts, assist deploying Airmen with Legal issues and provide critical counsel to Air-Force commanders around the world. Benefits In the Air-Force, you will serve your country with benefits such as competitive salaries, tax-free housing and food allowances, full comprehensive medical and dental care and 30 days of vacation with pay each year. You-ll also be able to work, travel and live in exciting locations throughout the United States and the world. And if you make a career of Air-Force service, you-ll have the option of retirement with pension and benefits after only 20 years. In addition, specialized Training courses and continuing Legal educational opportunities are abundant and provided at no cost to you. A number of JAGs are even selected every year to return to law school for LL.M.s in specialties like Government contracts (procurement), labor law, air and space law, international law and environmental law. Qualifications To be considered, you must meet the following requirements: -You must be a U.S. citizen. -You must be less than 35 years of age. -You must be a graduate of an ABA-accredited law school and be-admitted to the highest court of any state. -You must be willing to travel and relocate. -You must complete an Air-Force medical examination and be medically qualified by the Air-Force Surgeon General prior to commissioning. Selection is competitive, but we consider more than just your grades, law school and LSAT score.
